I think it's to keep readres interested but also to incorporate them into the story as if they were a friend to Cecelia personally.

ReplyDeleteWhile I didn't read this story, I enjoyed reading your notes on it. It seems interesting how Cecilia takes breaks and talks directly to the reader, and I like your point about how it makes the reader feel like they are part of the story themselves or a friend of Cecilia's. I don't know if you ever saw it, but this reminds me of the way that House of Cards was, in that Kevin Spacey's character would at times look right into the camera and talk to the viewer directly. I've heard of some people not liking this style, but I have always enjoyed it. Thanks for you notes on The Love of the Last Tycoon!
